MHI’s Involvement in Australia’s Decarbonization：

MHI is actively involved in Australia’s decarbonization efforts by enhancing the hydrogen ecosystem. Mr. Kaguchi highlighted that MHI’s focus includes:

• Hydrogen Production: Providing advanced hydrogen production systems.

• Hydrogen Transport: Converting hydrogen into ammonia for efficient transport and storage.

• Ammonia Production and Transportation: Collaborating on the production and transport of ammonia, which is crucial for a green hydrogen economy.

MHI is partnering with entities such as the Port of Newcastle, Orica, and Origin Energy to accelerate green ammonia production. The goal is to scale up production and explore export opportunities to Japan and South Korea.

Addressing Challenges and Opportunities：

Mr. Kaguchi acknowledged that green hydrogen and ammonia face challenges, primarily related to high costs driven by electricity prices. To address these issues, MHI is recommending the use of blue hydrogen, which is produced from natural gas with CO2 captured and stored. This approach could help bridge the gap while scaling up green hydrogen production. MHI’s strategy involves integrating both blue and green hydrogen to facilitate the transition to a hydrogen society.​
